The Nordgren family in London has recently welcomed its latest new member.

Thor Ragnar Nordgren was born on the 30th of March at 6.33 in the morning. He was 50 cm long and weighed 3.32 kg. His head circumference was 34 cm. He has blond hair and big blue eyes at the moment. He might be getting curls.

He’s nicely just between the 25th and 50th centile on the English growth charts. Up until now he has stayed on his growth curve. He’s being breastfed on demand and that seems to work for him about every 2-3 hours round the clock. Hopefully he’ll soon settle into a slightly less demanding routine!

Thor’s hearing was tested in the hospital and was clear in both ears. Although he doesn’t focus very well yet, his eyes follow movement and he looks towards interesting sounds. He can lift his head up when he’s on his tummy and he can move around surprisingly well for a newborn. He has trouble getting to sleep without sucking something and he settles best on someone’s lap. He doesn’t like being swung or rocked very much, but he loves hugs and cuddles.

Our Thor is named for the Viking God of thunder and fertility. The original Thor had a magical throwing hammer called Mjolnir that always returned to its owners hand. Ragnar is a name that many men of the Nordgren line have carried. Ragnar was also a legendary Viking king and raider from the eighth or ninth century.
